What’s your story?
When I was born, doctors gave me a 10% chance to survive or that my future would be bleak. While doctors labeled me with cerebral palsy, I was determined to not to let my disability define my life experience. I set out to prove the experts wrong and became a licensed clinical psychologist and wife. And in 2015, I was crowned Ms. Wheelchair California. My life is about working hard and playing hard, I love to travel, explore the outdoors, snow ski, swim, hike, and skydive. Adventure is my middle name!
Why did you choose Model M?
I quickly learned to embrace my old wheelchairs as a means for exploring the world and having adventures, but have always detested their cumbersome appearance and limitations. I consistently struggled to find a wheelchair that embraced my sense of style, need for outdoor exploration, and could keep up with my 24-hour on-the-go lifestyle. That’s until I found Model M, which possesses the functionality, aesthetics, and versatility I need to easily transition from a professional meeting to an outdoor adventure.
What do you like about Model M?
Model M’s sleek design showcases the user rather than the wheelchair itself. I’m able to use Model M with ease in the workplace, and I especially value how the seat can move forward away from the controls when seated at a boardroom table. I appreciate that I no longer have to change wheelchairs when leaving work to go on a hike with my daughter or traverse the golf course.
How has WHILL impacted your life?
Model M is the first chair in 40 years that I can proudly say matches my style! It allows me to sit taller and be proud of my 4-wheel accessory; the versatility of the chair accommodates all aspects of my life.
Note: Alette had an extensive test drive with a demo unit.
